Unleashing Your Unconscious Mind
Do you appreciate the power of your subconscious mind? The subconscious mind is a powerful force. It has its own unique way of perceiving the world. What is happening around you is less important than what the subconscious mind thinks is happening. In other words, perception is your reality. Whenever it perceives to be a problem, it will remedy and will solve that problem for you whether you’re aware of that problem or not. For instance, if you have an image of yourself in your mind as overweight or as a poor public speaker or just plain poor, your subconscious mind will help you achieve that image. It will help you stay overweight, keep that image for you, or nervous or poor. Remember the image in your mind is what the subconscious perceives as the truth. Very little logic operates in the subconscious. Emotions and old tapes dictate much of your behavior.
The subconscious mind focuses on those goals and sets out to achieve that. We have opinions, our subconscious does not. It operates only from information stored in this memory. After the age of eight years when the critical factor develops, we can be critical about the information we accept and receive. The subconscious, however, accepts whatever we send to it. It is nonjudgmental. Willpower cannot override it for any length of time. You can try every diet and our subconscious will bring us right back to that inner image. Fortunately, it cannot differentiate between what is real and what is imagined. Hypnosis or hypnotherapy is the way to access the subconscious mind and to replace those old tapes with your new choices and a new image of how you see yourself. Let me be a slimmer you or a great public speaker, a successful business person or baseball player or a golfer, a nonsmoker, a person with a stronger and healthier body or almost anything you choose. The subconscious is also called a servomechanism. That is a machine that automatically steers itself towards a goal. You want to change, then make it a servant. Every day of our lives we are making decisions about our world.
We tend to make those decisions without going back to assess it. Some of our behavior now may be based on the decisions we made when we were children and we continue to reinforce them. They may have served us then but are no longer appropriate or functional. Every time a coworker acts like that, I get mad. “Finish all your dinner. Think of this poor starving children in. If I look at a brownie, I put on five pounds. I have a big day tomorrow. I know I won’t sleep. I’ve tried everything to quit. I just can’t do it. My memory is poor. I never do well on exams. No matter how hard I try, I always fail. I’m stupid. I’ve always been an average golfer. Rich people must be cheats. It’s not what you know. It’s who you know,” and the list goes on. We know how powerful advertising is, but we don’t often realize how powerful our own thoughts are in directing our lives. It’s all the power of suggestion. This brings us to repetition. Our subconscious mind strives on repetition just as advertisers know their ads are more effective when you see or hear them repeatedly so too. It is important for you to hear those positive suggestions repeatedly for your ultimate success. Listen to your hypnosis tapes often. Read or say your affirmations and redirect your negative thoughts. Go on, say some nice things to yourself. “I can achieve all the changes I want. I’m perfect the way I am.” In hypnotherapy, perhaps the greatest skill comes to developing positive suggestions. You can learn to talk to your subconscious mind in a way you can understand.
Memories are recreated each time you recall them. They’re not stored. There are complete entities within the preconscious or anywhere else for that matter. Because of this, our memories can change over time. The young conscious mind is a different role. Its job is around more with our bodies and minds. It regulates our heartbeat and controls all our vital organs. Its prime directive, however, is survival. During moments of this equilibrium, the unconscious takes over the job of your conscious mind and begins recording and starting precepts. The unconscious mind does not attempt to make sense of what it records or stores. It is from out of the jumble of thought precepts that reactions are born.
In the first seven years of our lives, we do not consciously learn. This is because learning officially begins when the brain begins to shift predominantly to Alpha frequencies. In the first seven years of our lives, our brain functions primarily in Theta frequencies even when we are awake. This is the state that when we are in as adults, we can be more easily persuaded and the state we are in when you’re half asleep. As children in this state, we are programmed in a whole lot of commands that thereafter run our lives. Since we are being programmed, we are unaware of this state. We do not recognize or realize how much programming we have taken on. After we are programmed, we forget about those programs. We then promptly forget that we were programmed and then we forget that we forgot. Since only later on in life when we keep running the limiting patterns that you start questioning the basis for our limited choices that bring us pain.
The unconscious is also responsible for activating reactions. Some reactions are essential to our well-being and survival. For example, touch a hot stove and your immediate reaction is to snatch your hand away and the reaction saves you from severely burning yourself. Not all reactions, however serve such a useful purpose. For example, reactions can cause unwanted emotions and feelings. They can cause stress and illness, physical as well as mental. They can cause you to act irrationally and illogically. They can and do affect every part of your life. Your unconscious mind is a single source of your reactions. It is also the source of all stress-related illnesses and conditions. These include acne, bulimia nervosa, the common cold, diabetes, headaches, insomnia, obesity, ulcers and many more besides.It is important for you to hear positive suggestions repeatedly to achieve ultimate success.
